| DefaultBaseTypeLimitingValidator is the PolymorphicTypeValidator applied automatically whenever @JsonTypeInfo is used without an explicitly configured custom validator. It denies polymorphic resolution only for a fixed set of "unsafe base types", and its isSafeSubType method returns true unconditionally for every base type outside that set. java.lang.Comparable was absent from the list despite being implemented by a very large fraction of JDK and application classes, comparable in breadth to java.io.Serializable, which is on the list for that reason. An application declaring an @JsonTypeInfo-annotated property or class with Comparable as its base type, and no custom PolymorphicTypeValidator, will accept a type identifier for essentially any class implementing Comparable. This yields an attacker-controlled object instantiation primitive; a demonstrated case constructs a java.io.File for an arbitrary attacker-chosen path, which becomes path-traversal-adjacent if the application subsequently calls path-sensitive methods on the value. No class implementing Comparable has been identified that yields code execution through deserialization alone. Global Default Typing via activateDefaultTyping is not affected, because that method structurally requires an explicit PolymorphicTypeValidator argument. This affects com.fasterxml.jackson.core:jackson-databind from 2.11.0 before 2.18.10, from 2.19.0 before 2.21.6, and from 2.22.0 before 2.22.2, and tools.jackson.core:jackson-databind from 3.0.0 before 3.1.6 and from 3.2.0 before 3.2.2. Users should upgrade to 2.18.10, 2.21.6, 2.22.2, 3.1.6, or 3.2.2. |
| When configured to enable default typing, Jackson contained a deserialization vulnerability that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Jackson fixed this vulnerability by blacklisting known "deserialization gadgets". Spring Batch configures Jackson with global default typing enabled which means that through the previous exploit, arbitrary code could be executed if all of the following is true: * Spring Batch's Jackson support is being leveraged to serialize a job's ExecutionContext. * A malicious user gains write access to the data store used by the JobRepository (where the data to be deserialized is stored). In order to protect against this type of attack, Jackson prevents a set of untrusted gadget classes from being deserialized. Spring Batch should be proactive against blocking unknown "deserialization gadgets" when enabling default typing. |
| Applications that deserialize execution contexts with Jackson2ExecutionContextStringSerializer are vulnerable to a deserialization attack if they use an untrusted data source for the job repository. The JobParameterDeserializer does not properly enforce the trusted-types allowlist, allowing an attacker to craft malicious input that can lead to arbitrary code execution, including known Jackson RCE gadgets.

| Pimcore is an Open Source Data & Experience Management Platform. Prior to 11.5.19, 12.3.10, and 2026.1.6, Pimcore\Model\DataObject\ClassDefinition\Data\Hotspotimage::getDataFromResource() in models/DataObject/ClassDefinition/Data/Hotspotimage.php passes the field __hotspots object-store column to Pimcore\Tool\Serialize::unserialize() without an allowed-classes restriction after JSON decoding fails. An attacker with a separate capability to write crafted PHP serialized bytes into that column can instantiate available classes and trigger magic methods when an affected DataObject is loaded, which can produce arbitrary file writes or code execution through bundled gadget chains. The related ImageGallery, Block, and Video callers use the same fallback pattern, but the identified June fix changes the Hotspotimage caller only. This issue is fixed for Hotspotimage in versions 11.5.19, 12.3.10, and 2026.1.6. |

| SvelteKit versions from 2.49.0 through 2.53.2 (fixed in 2.53.3) contain a deserialization expansion issue in the experimental form remote function. | When adding a key to a remote agent constraint extensions such as restrict-destination-v00@openssh.com were not serialized in the request. Destination restrictions were silently stripped when forwarding keys, allowing unrestricted use of the key on the remote host. The client now serializes all constraint extensions. Additionally, the in-memory keyring returned by NewKeyring() now rejects keys with unsupported constraint extensions instead of silently ignoring them. |

| ILIAS deserialises stored session data for an unauthenticated caller. The Shibboleth back-channel endpoint at components/ILIAS/AuthShibboleth/resources/shib_logout.php runs in a context that ilInitialisation exempts from authentication, and its logout-notification handler locates the session to terminate by reading every live row of the session table and passing each row's stored data to a hand-written parser that calls unserialize without restricting which classes may be constructed. Any serialised object present in any session row is therefore instantiated on behalf of an anonymous request, and object destructors run when those objects are discarded. A serialised object can be placed into a session row without logging in, because the LTI authentication entry point stores request parameters into the session and is reachable on a path the same initialisation code exempts from authentication. A class bundled with the application writes a JSON-encoded structure to a file named by one of its own properties when it is destroyed, which places attacker-controlled content at an attacker-chosen path below the web root and results in code execution as the web server user. Versions 9.22, 10.10 and 11.3 remove the endpoint's logout-notification implementation. |
